With a size and height disadvantage and a bit of nausea from the extended bus ride, the freshman squirrel six struggled to close out the key on defense and penetrate on offense. After halftime adjustments and a boost from captain Maya Sheller, the girls were able to dominate the second half, but unfortunately not shut down Wadsworth offense enough to pull off a win.
Maya Sheller lead the team in offense scoring 11 out of 22 points and 8 rebounds. She was helped out by defensive standout Megan Moser, who had 2 points and 18 rebounds; by post Mae Nettle with 4 points and 9 rebounds, 8 of which were in the second half; and the talented ball handler Jazelle Mercury who had 5 points and 3 rebounds.
These freshman played with heart and hustle to nearly overtake the traditionally dominating Wadsworth, and prove that the future of Kent Roosevelt Girls Basketball is a bright one.
