Good Morning Rider Nation,
As many of you know, Portage County moved from level red to the highest risk level, level purple yesterday on the Covid 19 Ohio Public Health Advisory System. With this change in advisory levels, Kent City Schools has made the decision to begin total remote learning in all buildings beginning Wednesday, December 9, 2020. Additionally, for the safety of our athletes, coaches and fans, the Roosevelt and Stanton Athletic Departments are making adjustments to their athletic practice and game schedules effective immediately.
Kent City Schools has made the decision to pause all high school and middle school athletic activities. With this pause in our athletic programs, come the following details –
- PRACTICE – High School and middle school teams will be permitted to practice today, Friday, December 4th and Saturday, December 5th since we are still in school. Beginning Sunday, December 6th, all high school and middle school practices will cease through at least Friday, December 18th. After re-evaluation of the virus status and risk levels in our county the week of 12/14, practice COULD resume on Saturday, December 19th.
- GAMES – All high school and middle school games will stop immediately until further notice. At this time, the target restart date of Monday, January 4, 2021 will be used for the resumption of games for the high school and middle school winter sport teams. However, this date is subject to change based on the status of the virus in Portage and surrounding counties where games are played.
- CONDITIONING – The Adam S. Hamilton Fitness Center is closed immediately until further notice.
Any changes or updates to this plan will be communicated through the coaches, our athletic website (www.roughriderathletics.net), Twitter (@rriderathletics) and/or a One Call message.
During the very challenging year, it has been the philosophy of Kent City Schools to keep our athletic teams practicing and competing as long as it was safe for everyone, including coaches, players, parents, game staff and officials. The decision to hit the pause button for Roosevelt and Stanton athletics was a difficult one and not taken lightly. Our plan is to resume normal athletic activities as soon as it is safe for everyone involved.
Stay safe, stay healthy!
