Game Recap

The Kent Girls Varsity Soccer Team began their league campaign in fine fashion, winning away at Medina Highland HS on Wednesday. The Lady Roughriders scored two goals in each half while also putting in a very solid defensive performance, giving up only one goal in the first half.

“After playing two previous losses last week, we came into this game knowing we had to do something to tighten up our defense.” said new Roosevelt coach Jerry Shutway. “We gave away too many soft goals in those two losses, and really felt it was something that could be fixed with a different tactical game plan, and I’m very happy to see the girls execute that plan consistently throughout the entire game.”

The starting lineup consisted of senior goalkeeper Liz Hartung, fullbacks seniors Mariah Hersman and Maria Young, and sophomores Kylie Hudson and Carley Wolfgang, senior midfielders Kendra Kline, Dominique Lampe and Kayla Fischer, and forwards senior Emma Holm, junior Liz Wiltanger and freshman Kassidy Fischer. Equally important to the win were the players coming in off the bench…juniors Carley Neaffer, Emma Herman and Jenna Welch and sophomore Haley Brenner.

Goals were scored by Liz Wiltanger (1), Kayla Fischer (2), and Kendra Kline (1). Assisting on Kline’s goal was Kassidy Fischer.
